Civil vs. Criminal Forensics: An Update

The use of digital forensics in civil and criminal investigations differs in specific parts of the collection, investigation, reporting, and storage process. Both sectors adhere to a similar set of standards for the treatment of evidence, but key differences are present in the Rules of Civil Procedure due to updates that recognize the importance and abundance of digital evidence in modern litigation. Recent case law has also shown differences in the way electronic evidence impacts verdicts.
