Dr. Gavin W. Manes was profiled in a feature on Alumni in the Sciences in the Winter 2010 issue of The Hill Magazine, a publication of Greenhill School. Dr. Manes graduated from Greenhill in 1996.

"Gavin W. Manes, Ph.D. '96 lives in Tulsa, Oklahoma, where he runs Avansic, a digital forensics and discovery company. He earned all three of his degrees from The University of Tulsa, where he taught after completing his doctorate.

Gavin is a definitive member of the Forever Club, having started at Greenhill when he was three years old.

Of the science program, he says, 'Science was always my best subject, even when I was in Lower School. I took computer science with Ms. Murphy in Upper School, which was just about the time that computers were becoming commonplace. I remember one of my teachers being shocked when I turned in a paper with everything spelled correctly - I had used this brand new feature called Spell Check.'

To budding science students, he gives this advice: 'Breadth of knowledge is incredibly important, especially if you want to be an entrepreneur. I was an honor student in science and math but never performed well in English. It's ironic that now, almost half of what I do it reading, writing and communicating scientific ideas in common language.'"
